Heights bar Jimmy's Ice House is shutting down.
Houston-based Braun Enterprises plans to purchase the property at 2803 White Oak from owner Rose Garden Holdings, Eric Quinn, Rose Garden's managing partner, told The Leader. No formal plans have been announced for the property, but the names "Jimmy’s Ice House” or “Jimmie’s Place" will not be used because Quinn owns those business tags.
Last call is scheduled for March 31, according to the Houston Chronicle. Founded by Jimmie Murray, the watering hole started as a grocery store in the early 1940s before serving ice and beer.
Braun Enterprises, one of the fastest-growing retail developers inside the 610 Loop, closed on two assets — one near Montrose and another in the Heights — in September. The Heights acquisition — a 52,000-square-foot tract of land at 2401 N. Shepherd Drive — was Braun's 20th property purchase in the Greater Heights area.
The developer also in September closed on a historic building at 1919 Washington Ave. in a joint venture with Houston's Baker Katz. One of the building's two tenants is Julep, a popular cocktail bar.
